Exporting strategies

Lona currently exports strategies to MetaTrader 5 (MT5). The export is generated as MQL5 and compiled into an MT5 Expert Advisor package.

Requirements

Export is available from a strategy detail page and requires Pro access. The strategy must have source code. There is no platform picker: the current export target is MT5 only.

Start an export

1. Open Strategies and select a strategy.
2. On the strategy detail page, select Export.
3. Wait while Lona generates MQL5 and the MT5 compiler processes it.

The strategy detail page also shows Export History. An export can be Pending, Processing, Completed, or Failed. A strategy cannot start another export while an export is processing, and a completed export is reused instead of creating a duplicate.

Download the result

When the export is complete, select Download in Export History or use the export download action. The result is a ZIP containing:

The download URL is a temporary 24-hour storage URL. If it expires, request the download again from the completed export record. Deleting a completed export also deletes its stored artifact.

Export translation is not a guarantee that live trading behavior will match a backtest. Review the generated source, compile diagnostics, broker rules, symbol settings, and order behavior before using an Expert Advisor.

Install in MT5

Extract the ZIP and copy the .mq5 and .ex5 files to the MT5 data folder’s MQL5/Experts directory. In MT5, open Navigator, locate the Expert Advisor, and attach it to a chart. Review the generated code and enable automated trading only after validating it in your own environment.

Troubleshooting

Export is unavailable

Check that you have Pro access and that the selected strategy has code. Export is shown on the strategy detail page, not as a general chat action.

Export is already processing

Wait for the existing export to complete. The service prevents concurrent duplicate exports for the same strategy.

MQL5 generation failed

The strategy could not be translated into MQL5. Confirm that the strategy backtests successfully, then try again. If the error persists, review the failure details or contact support.

MQL5 compilation failed

The generated source did not compile. Use the compiler diagnostics shown with the failed export, correct the strategy if needed, and retry the export.
